Sync your steps. Survive the zombies. The ultimate virtual race.

What’s worse than zombies? Radioactive zombies.

How do you get radioactive zombies?

Step 1: Have a zombie outbreak.
Step 2: Stop doing maintenance on the Happyvale Nuclear Power Plant.
Step 3: DO NOT RUN 110 Miles to shut it down before the impending meltdown.

How do you avoid radioactive zombies? Run 110 miles in the next 60 days and shut the power grid down.

The Outbreak: ApocalypseTM is the ultimate virtual race where your real-world steps and exercise move you across the zombie wasteland in the interactive Outbreak game. Adventure solo or visit The Outbreak Community to join or recruit a survivor squad.

The nuclear plant is going to meltdown. It’s 110 miles away and you have 60 days, at most, to get there. Will you make it in time to disable the reactor, or will you allow radioactive zombies to take over what’s left of humanity?

The virtual race t-shirt you’ll actually wear

We’re frequent virtual racers ourselves and we’re tired of the same old race t-shirts. You know the ones… hot, scratchy, stiff cotton that wrinkles and shrinks beyond repair the first time you wash them.

The ApocalypseTM collectors t-shirt gets it right with an ultra-soft tri-blend that’s light, airy and extra comfortable. Perfect for a run, a trip to the gym or a night on the town, you’ll look great in the gunmetal gray tee with a vintage-style design that says, “I survived the zombie apocalypse… in style.”

ApocalypseTM T-shirts are an available add-on in S-XXL and you can choose whether to have your tee shipped at the start or end of your race.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Outbreak challenges and virtual races?

The Outbreak has two distinct ways to play:

OUTBREAK CHALLENGES

  • Duration-based: Challenge missions require players to stay active for a set amount of time, ranging from 2-6 weeks in length, depending on the mission.
  • Team-based: Challenge missions have a minimum team size of 3 players.
  • No swag is included: Challenge missions do not come with medals or other collectibles.

OUTBREAK VIRTUAL RACES

  • Distance-based: Virtual race missions require players to reach a certain distance and they end immediately when the distance is reached.
  • Play solo or on teams: Virtual race missions can be played both solo and with teams.
  • Swag is included for finishers: Virtual race missions come with medals and/or other collectibles for those who complete the race.
Do I need to have a fitness tracker?

No. For users who don’t have a discreet fitness tracker (like a Fitbit or Apple Watch), The Outbreak can use the smartphone’s internal pedometer to track activity. For users who do have a fitness tracker, The Outbreak connects to Apple Health (iOS) and Google Fit (Android), which each sync data from hundreds of fitness trackers and apps.

When are medals shipped out?

When you complete an Outbreak virtual race, your medal will be sent to you in the mail. Orders are typically shipped within 4 business days.

Note: medals are only included with Outbreak virtual races and are not included with Outbreak challenges, and you must finish the virtual race to earn a medal.

When are t-shirts shipped out?

T-shirts are an optional add-on. If you opt to add t-shirts to your race you’ll be prompted to choose your shipping method at checkout. Your may bundle your t-shirt with your medal and receive both at the end of your race to save on shipping and handling, or pay for expedited shipping and handling to receive your t-shirt right away.

How do teams work?

If you purchase multiple race entries for the same race, simply give your group code to all participants.

Upon entering your group code into The Outbreak app, participants will be prompted to join or create a team.

On teams of 2 or more, game elements, like obstacles, are scaled to the size of the team, and team movement is determined by the average of the team’s steps.

Since medals are earned by finishing virtual races, what happens if I don’t finish?

Each Outbreak virtual race has a maximum time limit in which you must cover the race’s distance. You must finish the race within the maximum time limit to earn your medal.

If you don’t finish, you will be emailed a retry code that will allow you to retry the virtual race for free.

Is The Outbreak family friendly?

Yes. The tone and visuals are all family friendly.

How do I access the race once I've purchased?

Once you’ve purchased an Outbreak event our system will generate a personalized group code. Simply enter that group code into The Outbreak iOS or Android app to get started.

How do steps and exercise work in the game?

In The Outbreak app you’ll use your steps to move across the gameboard to stay ahead of the chasing zombie horde and get closer to your safehouse goal.

You’ll use your exercise (synced as exercise or workouts) to battle zombie obstacles and heal your character when you take damage.

What size groups does The Outbreak support?

The Outbreak can support anything from single entries to large groups of 10,000+ participants.

For groups larger than 300, please contact our sales team so we can help you get set up.
